Schools
It
was the priests of the Missions Etrangeres de Paris Fathers
of French foreign Mission who founded St. Joseph's European
High School in Bangalore in 1858 which in the dispensation
of the times, imparted High School Education to Europeans
and Anglo-Indian Children in English. Founded on the site
which now houses St Germain's High School, the School moved
to its new premises on Museum Road, in 1898.
The
Indian Section of the School was instituted under the leadership
of Fr. Blaise, Principal from 1904 to 1912. The Full-fledged
St Joseph's Indian High School was shifted to the New Fields
campus in 1961 and its school building was completed in 1970.
Colleges
St.
Joseph's College, Bangalore, was started in 1882 by the French
Foreign Missionary Fathers for the purpose of imparting higher
education. In 1937, the management of the College was handed
over to the Jesuits, a world-wide Religious Order going by
the name 'Society of Jesus'. The College and its sister Institutions
are now managed by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society
(Regd). A Department of Commerce was established in the college
in 1949 in a separate Block on Langford Road.
In
1968, the St. Joseph's College of Business Administration
was started to conduct One Year Diploma Courses in a variety
of Management subjects with Offices on Langford Road alongside
the Commerce Department. In the same year Evening classes
both at the PUC & Degree levels were commenced at St.Joseph's
College for those students who had missed out their collegiate
education in the normal course. In 1972 the college was bifurcated
into St.Joseph's College of Arts & Science and St.Joseph's
College of Commerce with St.Joseph's College Commerce (SJCC)
& St.Joseph's College of Business Administration (SJCBA)
moved out to 163, Brigade Road, and St.Joseph's Evening College
became an Independent College.
In
the year 1996 SJCBA started offering Two Year Full Time Post
Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with recognition from
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. Of
India.
By
an Order of the Govt. Of Karnataka, the Pre-University section
from both St.Joseph's College of Arts & Science &
St.Joseph's College of Commerce were bifurcated to form into
one Junior College, St.Joseph's Pre-University College.
With
a history of 144 years and a fine blend of Tradition and modernity
the College enjoys and impeccable reputation for value-based
